Bush-Wellborn Crossing

The Bush-Wellborn Crossing (BWX) project is fully funded. Construction was scheduled to begin in Spring 2026, but due to additional coordination with various agencies and stakeholders, construction is now anticipated to start in summer 2027. Scroll to see what the project design may look like. The intersection of Wellborn Road (FM 2154) and George Bush Drive (FM 2347) in College Station, Texas, plays a vital role in the connectivity and accessibility between the Bryan-College Station and Texas A&M University communities. The existing intersection, which has not been improved in more than 20 years, is no longer able to efficiently handle the growing number of travelers. Congestion and long queues develop every weekday over several hours during peak travel periods and Texas A&M University class-change times.

Intersection will have 3 separate levels at or below the railroad track:

  • LEVEL 1: Wellborn Road through lanes, parallel to existing railroad.

  • LEVEL 2: Dedicated bicycle and pedestrian path.

  • LEVEL 3: George Bush Drive, about 35 feet below the railroad track.
